Having worked with CORE Resources, Inc on three other projects including fitness centers on Colerain Avenue, Deerfield Towne Center and in Hyde Park, Global Fitness Holdings invited CORE to complete their newest facility, Urban Active Health Club in Kenwood. CORE’S success in delivering the previous projects which ranged from 27,300 SF to 42,150 SF and included running tracks, racquetball courts, basketball courts and pools was a key determinant in awarding this new project to the team.
The new facility in Kenwood was completed in three phases. The first phase included construction of a pre-sale facility, the permanent cardio cinema and an open gym area allowing for the preview and sales of memberships prior to the grand opening. This also allowed new members to enjoy the facilities while the main gym was under construction. The second phase included the renovation of the existing façade and the interior renovation of the main gym, including the locker rooms, free weight and free training areas. The final phase included the basketball and racquetball courts, spinning room and tanning area.
Work on Phase 1 began in January 2009 and ended in April. After working with the design team to deliver mechanical, electrical, plumbing and building fire suppression working drawings under a design/build delivery system, permits were obtained in July for Phase 2 and 3. Work began immediately on Phase 2 and this work was completed for a grand opening party scheduled for the end of December. Phase 3 was completed in March of 2010.
